On 10 October 1863 the Court Circular in The Morning Post announced that on the previous day The King of the Greeks and the Prince of Wales inspected specimens of the photographs for which his Majesty and the Prince and Princess of Wales sat on Wednesday. The photographs were taken by Messrs Southwell of Baker Street, thus proving contemporary evidence of the exact date of this and other images in the same set, several of which were clearly taken using the same studio background.
